A funny part about this 1918 image is that the major GOP demand for another round of spending is removing employer liability from the 'industrial accident' of getting covid in the workplace. pic.twitter.com/t20n0fKOrb— Mike Konczal (@rortybomb) May 18, 2020

So, there are 30 million Americans on unemployment benefits and only 5 million job offers; so Rs think we should slash benefits by 2/3 to force workers to take the jobs that don't exist 1/

I was wondering whether Rs would show some hint of getting a clue as they stare at the possibility of a huge Dem wave. But I guess we needn't have worried 3/

Gross, but I'm more shocked the left-liberal world hasn't replicated it. It's a $2m/year investment. There's obvious advantages they have - you don't have to sell officials very hard on helping those with money and power - but it's low-hanging fruit. https://t.co/l0xSZJCfyS— Mike Konczal (@rortybomb) July 24, 2020

ReplyDeleteOne chance in 3 we've deployed the first vaccine. That would help enormously, as the people afraid of the disease get vaccinated and return to the markets. The others don't, but aren't leaving now. There will still be a big overhang, but this is the only improvement scenario I can conjecture.
