Tuesday Tweets -- If Andrew Gelman were on Twitter, I'd @ him on the first one

Good thread.

I never realized Diamandis was such a clown.

I'm so tired of vanity campaigns.

And, after that, you have to check out this, the ultimate Peloton thread.

  1. Wait, I had this impression that Peter Diamandis was some kind of billionaire. But, following the above link, he seems more like someone who's hustling for a buck. It looks like he does paid coaching. A billionaire wouldn't be doing paid coaching, right? Or am I missing something here?

    1. I thought so too but based on his Wiki page, I'm not sure what's going on. His resume seems to consist of founding companies I've never heard. Not sure where the X-prize figures in.

    2. His wealth is relevant to understanding his take on Musk. If Diamandis is rich, then it could be that Musk is his friend or even that he's invested in Tesla. If Diamandis is not rich, then it could be that he's trying to flatter Musk in the hope that some of that Musk wealth will trickle down to him. Or of course Diamandis could just be a true believer.

    3. Or it could be symbiotic. Diamandis is in the business of hawking a miracles-and-wonders picture of the future. The existence of a real-life Tony Stark would support the story he's trying to sell.
